YOUNGSTERS at an East Shields school can now get sport in the act in style after receiving sponsorship for new games kits.

Pupils at Ridgeway Primary Academy in Cleadon Park have been given a £2,000 donation by social landlord Isos Housing.

The children are really proud of their wonderful new kits and cannot wait to wear them in competition.

The gift was part of its contribution to a £90m regeneration scheme under way in the town.

Lewis Rimington, a localism officer for Newcastle-based Isos, and staff at South Tyneside Council have been working with the Park Avenue school for the last 10 years to deliver a series of lessons on regeneration themes such as housing, employment and health and wellbeing.

Mr Rimington said: “Over the last decade, we have been delivering various projects to the local community and working with pupils from the school to raise awareness of the work that has been undertaken.

“To celebrate the completion of the Isos element of the regeneration, we felt it would be a nice gesture to donate some money to the school in support of the development of Cleadon Park.

“The school chose to use that money to purchase new sports kit, and we hope the youngsters will enjoy wearing their new clothing.”

Headteacher Michael McCarthy added: “This is another example of this great community coming together. The children are really proud of their wonderful new kits and cannot wait to wear them in competition.
