A new school calendar is expected to be adopted in South Tyneside for the 2016/17 new school term.
The dates will apply to community and voluntary schools and have been drawn up following consultation with neighbouring local authorities. They are due to get the go-ahead next week. All other schools, including academies, can set their own term dates.
Coun Joan Atkinson, lead member for children, young people and families, said: “We appreciate the important of harmonising school term dates and holidays with neighbouring authorities.”
The autumn term will run from September 5 to October 21 with the mid term from October 24 to October 28. School will return from October 31 to December 16 with Christmas holidays from December 19 to January 2, next year.
The spring term runs from January 3 to February 17 with the mid term February 20 to February 24. It will return February 27 to April 7 with the Easter holiday from April 10 to April 21.
The summer term will run April 24 to May 26 with May Day on May 1, then from June 5 to July 21 with a holiday May 29 to June 2.
