FUN-loving youngsters in Jarrow have helped boost the funding pot of a children’s hospice by putting their best foot forward.

Toddlers and their parents of St Matthew’s parent and toddler group ventured out for a sponsored walk around Valley View last year.

It was part of a number of fundraising events the group holds each year in aid of Grace House Hospice Appeal.

This year youngsters presented the charity with a cheque for £1,600 – making the total raised for the appeal in the past eight years to £15,000.

Maria Lazenby, who is a play group leader alongside Bev James, said: “The toddlers love taking part in the sponsored walk. They all get dressed up and they have such a great time.

“We have been doing fundraising now for the past 15 years for various charities including CLIC Sargent, but for the last eight years we have been raising money for Grace House Hospice.

“Everyone really gets behind our fundraising and it is overwhelming to think a small group like ours has raised such a huge amount of money for the charity over the years.”

St Matthews Parent and Toddler Group is based at St Matthew’s Church Hall in York Avenue, Jarrow.

Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 9.30am until 11.30am.
