Elderly woman in hospital with head injuries after air weapon attack in South Shields

An elderly woman was left with a head injury after being hit with an air weapon pellet in South Tyneside.

The incident happened around 8.40am on Sunday in Erskine Road in South Shields.

The woman suffered a head injury as a result of being hit and was taken to hospital for medical attention where she remains.

Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident and officers are keen for any witnesses to come forward.

It's not known where the weapon was fired from.

Chief Inspector Neil Robson said: "The woman has suffered a facial injury as a result in this incident and is currently in hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish where the weapon was fired from and trace the person responsible and we want anyone who may have information to come forward."
