Emergency services called to South Shields pier after reports of concern for a woman

Police were called shortly before 11pm on Monday, January 18, to reports of a woman at South Shields pier who was discovered on the wrong side of the railings.

Hide AdA Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 10.55pm on Monday we received a report of concern for a female at South Shields pier.
“Officers attended the scene and found a woman on the wrong side of the railings.
A SSVLB spokesperson added: “The team were tasked with our colleagues from Sunderland CRT to the pier in South Shields after a report of a despondent female.
