Emergency services turn out in force as light aircraft makes two emergency landings on South Shields coast

A multi-agency incident happened when the small plane landed on The Leas at Marsden on Sunday, May 30.
Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team, South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue (TWFRS) and the North East Ambulance Service all attended the incident at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

Hide AdA witness reported the plane had circled houses before coming down with no engine running.
The Coastguard Rescue Team said: “On our arrival the fire service were able to confirm the pilot had sustained no injuries and there was no fire risk.
"The pilot decided to make an attempt to take off and head back to Northumberland, after taking off the plane suffered engine failure again and made another emergency landing in the same area.
"Once again it was confirmed there was no injuries or fire risk.

Hide Ad“With all services satisfied there was no risk to life, the aircraft was left with the owner who was going to get it recovered by road.”
Initially, four fire engines from TWFRS attended but just one remained there on stand by.
The fire service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 4.16pm from a member of the public saying they thought a plane had come down.
"It was believed it could be a crash land and we responded however the aircraft had made a safe landing and needed to refuel.
"We stood by until it took off, but it had difficulty.”
