The Customs House in South Shields will play host to tribute band And Finally…Phil Collins on Friday.

The eleven-piece band faithfully re-create all the classic hits from Phil Collins and Genesis.

Lead singer Chris Hayward first learnt he sounded like the multi-platinum selling legend at a karaoke bar.

He said: “It was back when I was about 22 and was singing I Wish It Would Rain Down on karaoke and people told me how much I sounded like him.

“Now it’s my favourite song, it’s a challenging song to sing and has a great guitar riffs over the singing.”

Like Phil, Chris started his musical career by learning to play the drums.

“I started playing drums from the age of 12 and went on to keyboards from the age of 17 but didn’t really start singing professionally until about 30. But I’ve always sung in my bedroom.

“I can’t wait to play in South Shields this weekend, I’m very excited.”

Phil Collins has created some huge hits bagging seven US and four UK number ones. He has 150 million album sales to his name worldwide and is one of three artists, along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, who have sold over 100 million albums both as solo artists and as a members of a band.

Between his hit singles, albums and film soundtracks he’s picked up seven Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globes and an Oscar.
