Entertainers set to cast a spell over South Shields at magic festival

Magic is coming to South Tyneside today as one of the UK's most unusual events begins.

The 13th South Tyneside International Magic Festival, organised by South Tyneside Council, is on at the Customs House, in Mill Dam, South Shields.

Leading magicians from around the world will gather to perform, practice and perfect their spellbinding skills in the five-day event.

Visitors from as far afield as Iceland have been attracted to the annual showcase, which begins with a Family Magic Extravaganza show tonight.

The evening will star children’s entertainers from across the North East, as well as international guest Mr Lido. This will be followed by two international gala shows on Friday and Saturday, featuring performances by magicians from across the world.

Those set to appear include American artists Chad Long and John Carney, Swedish champion Malin Nilsson, German award-winner Alana and Belgian man of mystery Rafael.

The South Tyneside International Magic Festival (STIMF) 2016 ends with a three-day convention from Friday, designed exclusively for professional performers and magic enthusiasts.
