Everyone has their own rules on when the Christmas tree should be taken down. If you have a real tree this year here’s how you can recycle it in South Tyneside.

South Tyneside Council turns the trees into compost and soil improver, some of which goes to local parks and green spaces.

Here are the sites across the borough where you can take your tree to be recycled.

Temple Park Leisure Centre, John Reid Road, South Shields NE34 8QN (next to Recycling Site)

Monday to Friday – 7am to 10pm

Saturday and Sunday – 8.30pm – 5pm

Christmas tree drop off point at Grange Park East Boldon. Two days after Christmas day.

Temple Park Centres will close at 3pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on January 2 2022

The Recycling Village will be open from 9am to 6pm every day over the festive period except Christmas Day.

Remove all tinsel and decorations and any pots or stands.

Most Christmas decorations can’t be recycled, including lights, baubles and tinsel – if you are getting rid of them this year, they should be donated to charity or be disposed of in your grey household waste bin.
