Ex-Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan finally nets new job '“ as player-manager!

Nolan has been out of the game since late August, when he left West Ham United.

The former Newcastle United captain trained with Orient earlier this season, but the club couldn't agree terms with him.

However, it is widely reported that the 33-year-old is set for a full-time job at Brisbane Road in the wake of manager Ian Hendon's dismissal.

The League Two club sacked Hendon on Sunday after a poor run of results.

Nolan had been linked with a reunion with Sam Allardyce – who managed him at West Ham and Bolton Wanderers – after his appointment at Sunderland.

UPDATE: Nolan has been confirmed as Orient's new player-manager.

A statement read: "The club are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Nolan as the new player-manager on a two-and-a-half year deal.

"Kevin brings with him invaluable expertise and know how, with 17 years’ experience in high level football.

"A number of strong candidates were interviewed by the chairman, but Kevin’s hunger, desire and passion to succeed at Leyton Orient, coupled with his experience, were key in the decision process.

"The club believe they have the man to take Leyton Orient forward and improve the club's position."
