A plan to run more Metros is on track to ensure people reach Sunderland International Airshow.

Extra services have been arranged for the festival of flight, which will run during the weekend of July 23 and 24 on Roker seafront, with a launch event planned for the Friday evening.

Extra Metro services will be put on during Sunderland International Airshow.

The service’s bosses say visitors are also being advised to allow plenty of time for their journey.

Metro services are expected to be very busy over the weekend, so DB Regio Tyne and Wear, which operates the Metro on behalf of Nexus, recommends anyone heading to the event on Metro should allow plenty of time to make their journey.

Extra Metro services will be running to get people home after the event.

Paul Walker, customer service director of DB Regio Tyne and Wear, said: “The Sunderland International Airshow is one of our busiest weekends of the year as thousands of people travel to Roker and the Seaburn seafront.

Extra Metros will be running but my message to customers is to please leave plenty of time for your journey.

Passengers are advised to buy a DaySaver ticket from any Metro station ticket machine to enable all day travel.
