South Shields have completed the signing of defender John Grey from cross-river neighbours North Shields.

Grey, who played the full 120 minutes at Wembley in May as the Robins won the FA Vase, further bolsters the Mariners' squad ahead of what looks set to be a hectic end to the season.

The attacking left-back has had two spells with North Shields, making 149 appearances and scoring six goals.

The 22-year-old joins fellow new arrival Ibby Hassan at Mariners Park, with the defender having joined from Whitby Town last week.

Meanwhile, a pitch inspection on Friday morning will decide if South Shields' FA Vase tie against Morpeth Town at Consett's Belle View goes ahead.
