A South Tyneside miners’ club is throwing open its doors to a family fun day this weekend after last year’s event was hailed a success.
Harton and Westoe Miners’ Welfare in Low Lane, South Shields, hosted its first sports day in 25 years, last year.
Former pitman and trustee Ronnie Peterson said: “Last year’s event was well attended. It was the first time in 25 years the welfare had hosted a fun day like this and everyone had a great time.
“Hopefully, this year will be no different.”
A range of activities will be held including bouncy castles, face painting and a children’s entertainers.
There will also be a hula hoop and cricket demonstrations, rounders, races and an assault course.
Music from 5pm will be provided by the Mojo Men.
The event will take place on Sunday from 11am.
