A man charged with stalking South Shields Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall today had a restraining order issued against him by magistrates.
Nabeel Waseem, 33, of Broadwater Road, Wandsworth, London, faced the charges at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
He appeared at an earlier hearing on February 4 and was bailed until today.
Waseem was held last month at a Premier Inn near Jade’s home in South Shields.
The court heard from prosecutor Clare Irving that on December 10 last year, Jade’s flat mate received an email from the defendant asking Jade to contact him on a mobile number.
Jade said she felt physically sick that someone had turned up at a close relative’s address.Clare Irving, prosecuting
“The email contained personal information, but at this point nothing much was thought about it.
“On December 23, Jade was made aware of an email which had been sent by the defendant requesting a meeting with Jade and containing further personal information. At this point, Jade said she felt nervous and unsettled.
“On 13 January at 10pm, Jade posted on Instagram that she was having a sleepover at her nanna’s house.
“She received a telephone call saying he had turned up at the house. Jade said she felt physically sick that someone had turned up at a close relative’s address.
“The defendant attended Premier Inn and was spoken to there by the police. He was advised not to contact Jade.
“On January 15, Jade received a phone call from her assistant manager.
“She was informed the defendant had called the management company asking for a job, VIP tickets and a meet and greet with Jade.
“He said he was dying of epilepsy and had spent thousands on tickets and albums. He wanted to work for the company for free.
“This made her feel nervous, unsettled and scared for the safety of her and her family.
“She felt harassed and in fear of physical violence.”
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said Waseem is a “great fan” of Little Mix, who believes they are not being promoted enough by their management company.
“He does not feel he has done anything wrong at all. He only contacted the management company as that is what the police suggested.”
No plea was taken in the case, but the magistrates agreed to put in place a restraining order on acquittal which severely limits Waseem’s contact with the 23-year-old singer.
