Fans stage demo and boycott Newcastle game in Ashley protest

HUNDREDS of Newcastle united fans today staged a demonstration outside St James’s Park.

The move is part of a planned boycott of today’s match by fans in protest at the way owner Mike Ashley is running the club.

Several hundred fans gather outside the ground before the kick off of today’s match with Tottenham Hotspur, many chanting “we want Ashley out”.

There were large numbers of empty seats in the stadium when the game kicked off.

The social media-led boycott say empty seats in all sections of the ground with one estimate putting the number at about 5,000.

To add to the fans’ anger, a light aircraft with “5 in a row 5underland” was flown over the ground by Sunderland supporters, in reference to their five wins in a row over Newcastle.
