Callum Amess, 19, and his dad Mark, 50, along with Jake Johns, 20, and his dad Paul, 48, have signed up to take part in the Great Manchester Run on May 20.

The event takes places two days before the first anniversary of the terror atrocity that claimed the lives of 22 concert goers - including South Tyneside couple Liam Curry, 19 and Chloe Rutherford, 17.

The much-loved pair were known to the quartet, with Callum and Jake both growing up with Liam through school and their shared passion for cricket.

The group will be raising funds and awareness when they hit the half-marathon route on May 20, for the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust.

Callum said: “It was my dad who asked if I wanted to do it. With it being two days before the anniversary I thought it would be a great way to help raise awareness of the Trust and to remember Chloe and Liam.

“I have been training and doing what I can as I have an injury, but I am determined to do it regardless and to finish it.

“At the moment, I’m just focusing on the training but I have no doubt when we get to Manchester, it is going to hit home. But the reason why we are there and why we are doing it will keep us going.”

Paul said: “I’ve done the Great North Run for the past eight or nine years and someone mentioned the Manchester Run.

“Mark and I were talking about it and decided it would be a change of scenery, then when we realised when it was taking place we thought it would be nice to link it in with the Chloe and Liam Trust.

“We were always going to raise money for the Trust but with the run being so close to the first anniversary, it makes it that more special.”
