Festive showcase is set to raise awareness of diabetes

Artists have been lined up to perform at The Voyager to raise awareness of the condition that can have a severe impact on people’s lives.

The showcase is part of a wider event taking place at the venue in Anderson Road South Shields tomorrow.

Alongside singers, there will be a number of Christmas stalls as well as the chance to find out more about diabetes.

Raffles will also help to raise cash for Diabetes UK South Tyneside branch - which raises awareness and offers support in South Tyneside.

Compere for the night Mick Johnson said: “A lot of people have been touched by diabetes, they either have the condition themselves or know someone who has.

“If left untreated or people don’t look after themselves it can be a serious condition to have.

“There is a lot around about other conditions but there doesn’t seem to be much around diabetes, which is why we are holding the night to raise awareness but also funds to help the work of the group to keep going.”

Taking to the stage tomorrow night will be Jen Normandale, Danielle and Katherine Wales. Headlining on the night will be a Sex Pistols tribute band. There will also be the resident DJ.

A raffle will take place on the night with a range of prizes including a 32-inch TV and hotel stays up for grabs.

The pub has already completed a “Voyager Vikings” pub crawl which raised £580, however, they are hope to raise more for the group.

Entry to the event is free. Doors open at 7pm.
