Crews of firefighters helped save a man from the River Tyne after he fell into the water from the High Level Bridge.
Teams from South Shields and Hebburn joined colleagues from Byker and Elswick after concerns were raised about the welfare of a man on the Newcastle to Gateshead bridge, who subsequently fell into the water.
A member of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service' swift water rescue team reached the man and maintained his airway until the arrival of its boat.
The casualty was then taken to the NE1 pontoon on the river and given first aid and oxygen by the firefighters and police officers who were also on scene until the arrival of paramedics.
The man was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary suffering from chest and pelvis injuries.
The incident happened just before 6pm last night.
