Firefighters rescue 'stunned budgie' on busy roundabout

Quick-thinking firefighters came to the aid of a stunned budgie on a busy roundabout.

Community firefighters Gwen Adams-Clark and Karen Hobkirk rescued the tiny bird at Lindisfarne Roundabout in Jarrow.

Thankfully it has now been reunited with its owner after being taken back to South Shields Station.

A post on Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service’s Facebook page read: “Gwen being the animal lover she is managed to make a safe recovery of the feathered friend and brought it back safely to South Shields Station.

“The bird was a little stunned and quiet but after a bit of TLC it soon found its voice.

“The bird is now safely at the local vets, and hopefully soon reunited with its owner. #NotJustFires.”
