Firefighters tackle scaffolding blaze in South Shields

Eight firefighters from South Shields and Wallsend were called to Portberry Street in Laygate at 3.35pm today.

Crews spent more than an hour putting out the fire which involved a large amount of wood.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets and cutting equipment to put out the blaze which had spread to a container nearby causing damage.
