A group of rugby-mad youngsters have impressed a sponsor so much with their dedication to the sport that they have secured a second year of funding.
Westoe Rugby Club under 11s have been handed a cheque for £750 from South Tyneside firm Be Modern.
It is the second year the company, now based at Bedesway, on the Bede Industrial Estate, Jarrow, have sponsored the team.
Michelle Tate, from the company, said: “We had been contacted by Sheena Carmichael to thank us for the previous year’s sponsorship, and when she mentioned they were looking for a new sponsor, the managing director said he would like to sponsor them for a second year.
“It is our way, as a company, to give something back to the community who supports us.”
The youngsters play for Westoe Wolves at the club, in Dean Road, South Shields.
Mrs Carmichael, mum to Robbie, who plays for the team, said: “The sponsorship, last year from Be Modern really helped the team. We never thought for one moment they would agree to sponsor us for a second year.
“The company has been so supportive and we can’t thank them enough.
