A HI-TECH South Tyneside company is in the running for a national award for helping youngsters take a step up the career ladder.
Component makers, Ford Aerospace and Ford Component Manufacturing Limited, picked up the regional Developing People Award, in the EEF/Aldermore’s Future Manufacturing Awards
The firm will go on to challenge for the national crown in April.
The award recognises the Tyne Dock company’s efforts to harness new talent, including the creation in 2013 of the Ford Engineering Academy, a partnership with South Tyneside College to train 16 to 24-year-olds, retraining existing staff, and introducing incentives for those approaching retirement age to stay in employment.
Company chairman, Geoff Ford MBE, said: “Winning is a fabulous recognition and affirmation of the far-sighted programmes we have in place for our dedicated workforce.
“A company is only as good as its staff, and for a business to succeed it must invest in its people.”
