Snowy scenes of South Tyneside were captured as the weekend saw it become a winter wonderland.

Readers shared their photographs as they watched on while flakes fell on the ground on Saturday, with the cold weather yesterday leaving fields and gardens frosted over into yesterday.

Today, the snow is expected to make way for patchy drizzle, with rain likely later.

While the cooler temperatures are due to remain, hitting a maximum of 7C, it will it chilly over hills, although milder near the coast.

Later in the week, it is set to be cloudy and breezy, with periods of rain, with mist at times on the hills.

It is forecast for heavy rain at times between Wednesday and Thursday, with strong southerly winds and coastal gales.
