Four people have been arrested after a drugs raid on a house in Hebburn.

A search warrant, issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act, was enforced at a house in Hexham Avenue on Friday, July 1.

Police obtained the warrant after receiving a high number of calls about suspicious activity at the address over a number of weeks.

During the search police found a brown powder - believed to be heroin - along with other drug related paraphernalia. All were seized by officers.

Two men - aged 30 and 24 - and two women - aged 33 and 19 - were arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs and have been bailed pending inquiries.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Julie Beattie said: "We cannot underestimate the detrimental effect drug dealing has on our communities and the misery it brings to the lives of those who have to put up with the unwanted activity day and night, and we are committed to making sure the supply of drugs in our communities is disrupted.

"Our communities play a crucial role in supporting us and it is often the information they give us that enables us to take action and I hope this activity reassures our neighbourhoods that we do listen to their concerns and respond to these robustly."
