A day of music, dance and activities for families has been organised to help boost a South Tyneside charity.

A fun day is on the cards for visitors to Mortimer Community Network, in Reading Road, South Shields on Saturday August 4.

It’s such a great day and as well as helping to raise funds so that we can keep the charity going, it also gives us the opportunity to promote the work we do.

The event has been organised by the Kids and Young Adults Klub (KAYAKLS) to help boost the charity’s profile and funds.

During the day visitors will have a range of activities to enjoy including a bouncy castle, pony rides, stalls, dance demonstration, DJ, mascots and raffles.

Actor Chris Slater, who played Frank in CBBC shows Tracy Beaker Returns and The Dumping Ground will also be making an appearance on the day.

Kayak member Kim Elliott said: “This is the fourth year we have hosted a fun day and each year it keeps getting bigger and better.

“It’s such a great day and as well as helping to raise funds so that we can keep the charity going, it also gives us the opportunity to promote the work we do and to raise awareness about special needs as there is still a lot of people who don’t understand and there is still a lot of naivety around it.

“Having the fun day, and our young people being involved, it gives them a sense of achievement, so the more people that turn out the more it means to them.”

Each week, the charity provides a place for young people with special needs to go and take part in a variety of activities as well as day trips.

It also offers a support network for parents offering guidance, advice, information and friendship.

Doors to the fun day open at noon until 4pm.
