A FUNDRAISING giant from South Tyneside is in the pink after raising £1,700 for a cancer charity.
Colin Plews and his fundraising team amassed the cash for Breast Cancer Campaign by hosting a charity night at the Hedworth Hall in South Shields.

The 46-year-old, who is 6ft 6in and weighs 19st, has embarked on a number of fundraising missions in recent months – including doing last year’s Great North Run from Newcastle to South Shields – all while wearing a giant pink dress.
He’s delighted that his charity night, held last month, generated so much money.
Colin, of Talbot Road, South Shields, decided to raise cash for the cancer research charity after a friend was diagnosed with the disease.
He said: “We sold 200 tickets for the event, and it sold out well in advance of the night.
“We even managed to resell a few when people let us know they couldn’t make it.
“After costs, we made £1,700, collecting more than £900 in donations and raffle ticket sales on the night itself, partly due to the fantastic raffle prizes which were donated.
“We were hoping for about £500 on the night, so we nearly doubled that.”
However, there’s no rest for the care home chef as, this Sunday, he will be taking part in the London Marathon, which will see him running 26 miles while wearing his dress.
He added: “I’m really excited for the marathon, but also a little bit nervous too, as the dress does weigh 3st.
