Funeral to be held for tragic South Tyneside four-year-old killed in road accident

The funeral of a South Tyneside four-year-old will take place tomorrow - two weeks after she was killed in a tragic accident.

Mourners will say their goodbyes to Ava Henderson at 11am on Friday, in South Shields. Ava died after being hit by a car in Jarrow on Friday, May 27.

She suffered serious injuries in the collision, which happened in Amos Ayre Place, shortly before 7.30pm.

She was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where she later died.

The funeral procession will leave the Scotch Estate and travel via John Reid Road to South Shields crematorium. Northumbria Police are advising motorists, that there may be disruption for a short time - to allow the procession to pass - and road users are asked to respect this.

A spokesman for Newcastle Coroner's Office said an investigation has been launched into Ava's death
