The North East has been treated to a second summer as sunshine and warmer temperatures returned.

The past few nights have seen gorgeous sunsets, but the evenings have brought chillier temperatures to remind us autumn is here.

And the outlook seems to be more of the same, according to the Met Office.

This afternoon will continue to be fine and sunny, and with light winds it should feel very pleasant. Maximum temperatures for the region will be 17°C.

Tonight will start clear, but fog will form again and it will become more widespread by dawn with some dense patches.

More rural areas will see a cold night in the countryside. Minimum temperatures will be 3°C.

Tomorrow will see another misty morning, with slow improvements as it clears. Once the sun breaks through it will be another fine day with some warm afternoon sunshine, according to forecasters. The maximum temperature will be 18°C.

Over the weekend, the weather is set to remain fine and dry with some sunshine and variable cloud. Generally, light winds with chilly nights and some early morning mist and fog.
