Great loss to comedy

Sorry to learn Dad's Army creator Jimmy Perry has died at his West London home aged 93 after a short illness.

Apart from the wartime antics of the Warmington-on-Sea Home Guard, with the help of his writing partner producer David Croft (who died in 2011 aged 89)they were also responsible for bringing us Hi-de-Hi ! the jolly japes and comic capers at Maplin’s, Britains favourite holiday camp .

They also created It Ain’t Half Hot Mum that followed the exploits of a Royal Artillary Concert Party in India (and later in Burma) during the Second World War.

Jimmy and David both received OBEs in 1978. RIP
