A JARROW couple have proved they are the cream of the crop when it comes to talents in the garden.
Green-fingered tenants have snapped up rewards after showcasing their horticultural skills in an annual contest.
The Shoots of Success competition is run by South Tyneside Homes and aims to reward tenants who keep their gardens to a high standard.
The winners, Alan and Susan Cox, from Eskdale Road, in Jarrow, were presented with £100 worth of Asda vouchers.
Second prize was awarded to Pat Moran, of Braeside, in Jarrow.
Third prize was handed to Anne and Tom Charlton, from Begonia Close, in Hebburn
Mr Cox who won the top prize two years ago and whose garden features a pond and wildlife habitat said: “We’re over the moon.
“The garden has had a makeover since the last time we won. It really is a labour of love.”
The judging panel was made up of the Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Fay Cunningham, Chairman of South Tyneside Homes Board Coun Ed Malcolm and Director of Housing and Finance, Brian Scott.
Coun Cunningham said: “It is important to recognise the efforts made by tenants in maintaining their gardens as this really pays dividends in brightening up the borough’s streets and estates.”
