Organisers took the decision to add the second date after the event, formerly called Hardwick Live, sold out for the first time in 2015.

This year’s festival, organised by Ramside Estates, will run at Hardwick Hall hotel, County Durham on both Saturday August 13 and Sunday August 14,

Scottish group Primal Scream who have stormed the charts for the past 30 years, will appear alongside songsmiths Echo & the Bunnymen on Saturday, with a full weekend line up still to be announced.

Jonathan Woodliffe of Ramside Estates, said: “Hardwick Live grew enormously throughout its three year history, rising to a capacity 10,000 crowd in 2015.

“With demand for its successor, Down To The Woods, already high we’ve made the decision to expand over two days in the hope that even more fans will have the chance to enjoy the amazing line up we have in store.”

While Ramside Estates remain tight lipped as to who will join Primal Scream and Echo & The Bunnymen for Down to the Woods 2016, they do promise that it will rival previous events and hope to make further announcements in the coming weeks.

"Last year we had a headline performance by James with special guests Razorlight and a host of top names from Embrace to 10cc," said Jonathan.

"This year we will be bringing even more big names to the North East, offering an eclectic mix of music to suit all tastes and ages and plan to make more major announcements by the end of March.”

Early bird tickets for Down To The Woods have already sold out and demand for one day tickets - priced at £55 for adults, £15 for young people and £8 for children – have been in high demand since going on sale late last year.

Those who have already bought these tickets will be contacted and offered the opportunity to upgrade to a full weekend pass, with weekend tickets being made available to buy separately later this month.

Ramside Estates have also increased their camp site capacity for this year’s festival, with camping pitches priced at £30 per tent.
