A summer fun day is to be held to help a South Tyneside charity boost its funds.

Members of the Charlie Cookson Foundation is organising the event at Westoe Rugby Club in Dean Road, South Shields.

I’d urge people to buy a ticket.

The action-packed day will help raise much needed cash for the charity which gives families, who have youngsters with life-limiting conditions, financial support.

Sarah Cookson, who set up the charity in memory of her son Charlie, who died aged two in 2013 from a mystery medical condition, said: “Without hosting events like this then we wouldn’t be able to help as many families as we do.

“These events provide much needed funding and they mean we are able to make life that little bit easier for a family who has a very poorly child.

“The foundation helps families by paying their bills, which eases the financial burden for parents, as many of them can no longer work full-time due to caring for their sick children.”

The event will run from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, August 17.

There will be bouncy castles, an animal petting corner, characters, reflexology sessions, massages and a disco dome - all included within the ticket price.

Plus for a small fee there will be a range of food available, face painting, crafts and pre-loved items.

Sarah, from Simonside, South Shields, and who is married to husband Chris, added: “It should be a brilliant day, we can’t wait.

“There will be so much going on and plenty of things for people enjoy. I’d urge people to go out and buy a ticket and come along to help support a local charity which makes such a difference to the lives of families who are already going through so much.”

Tickets cost £1 for adults and £3 for children. Under one year olds can enter for free.

They are available from Westoe Rugby Club, Charlie’s shop at Perth Green Community Centre in Jarrow, Ice Print and Design in Fowler Street, South Shields, and the charity’s office in Henry Robson Way, South Shields.
