RUNNING enthusiasts have launched a new drive to help families boost their fitness together.

Jamie Scorer, Lisa McAlinden and Neil Yorsten have launched Family Fit Club in a bid to get people of all ages exercising together.

The trio, who are all England Athletic coaches at South Shields Harriers, decided on the venture after being prompted by parents of youngsters looking for a way to live a more healthier lifestyle.

The group has been running for just over a month at Gypsies Green Stadium and has already attracted a number of families to work out together.

The sessions are athletics-based involving running, jumping and
throws.

Mr Yorston, a coach with the running club, said: “We are all members of South Shields Harriers and during the sessions some of the parents said they wanted to do something to get involved.

“We suggested a boot camp where all the family could get involved and it went from there. We have quite a lot of families who come down and we have had some great feedback.”

The sessions are held every Sunday at 10am, with Lisa looking after the youngsters, Neil looking after the adults who are just starting out in exercise and Jamie looking after those who are more advanced.
