The metro was brought to a halt in South Tyneside today after a young man became ill.
An ambulance and paramedics were called to platform 1 at Hebburn Metro Station at around 2.15pm when a male, believed to be in his early 20s, took ill on board.
A spokesman for Nexus, which runs the train, said emergency medical teams had to board the train to treat the patient.
He said: "The train was held while paramedics attended to the person.
"The train was back on the move at 2.40pm. We apologise for the delays, but it was beyond our control as an ambulance had to attend."
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed a paramedic and ambulance had attended the scene and taken the ill person to South Tyneside District Hospital.
