South Tyneside health bosses have appointed a new man at the top for the start of the new year.
Neil Mundy will take over the reins as chairman of South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust – which provides hospital and community services in the borough, as well as Sunderland and Gateshead – on January 1.
Mr Mundy is currently a non-executive director and audit committee chairman at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation trust.
He will replace Peter Davidson , who is bowing out after almost 20 years in the role.
Mr Mundy said: “South Tyneside is a very caring and progressive Trust, which shares the principles and values in which I strongly believe.
“I am very impressed at the way in which the Trust is addressing the growing needs of our ageing population by working in a broad partnership in the provision of health and social care.
“It is a great privilege to be appointed as chairman.”
Chief executive Steve Williamson said: “Neil was an outstanding candidate.
“With his wealth of experience and knowledge, his guidance and support will be key as we work over the next few years to achieve our ambition to be recognised as the premier combined hospital, community and wellbeing provider in the North East.”
