A DEVOTED wife is aiming to bolster the coffers at St Clare’s Hospice in memory of her late husband.

John Underwood died in March last year at the age of just 53 after a battle with cancer.

He spent several months receiving care from the staff at the Primrose Terrace hospice.

As a way of repaying that support, Mr Underwood’s widow, Jackie, 53, of Albert Road, Jarrow, is helping to organise a fundraising night for the charity with her friend Pat Linsley.

And today she appealed for the local business community to provide prizes to raffle on the night.

The event is to be staged at Tyneview Social Club in Pelaw on Friday, March 6.

Jackie said: “In return for their care, not only to my dear husband John, but to the whole family, at the most devastating time of our lives I would like to raise money to help the hospice to continue to care for other families at their time of need.

“But to ensure the success of the evening, I am asking local businesses to assist me in my quest by donating items I can use as raffle prizes.”

Anyone who can help in any way call Jackie on 0771 3194480 or Pat on 07871 309193.

Clare’s Hospice was established in 1987 to provide palliative care to adults with life-limiting illnesses south of the Tyne.
