A GEM of a couple are celebrating 65 years of wedded bliss.
Lucy and Les Bone are marking their blue sapphire anniversary today.
The couple, who live on the Lukes Lane Estate, Hebburn, met at a dance at St Andrew’s Church Hall and married at St Aloysius Church, in the town.
They will mark their marriage milestone with their family at the weekend.
Daughter Margaret Whale, 62, said: “They are always together and look after each other, very much so.
“My Dad’s not so good on his legs now and getting about, and my mum does a lot of running about for her age. She’s amazing, they both are.
“They are an inspiration to us all.”
Lucy, nee Newman, is 84, and Les is 86.
During her working life, Lucy had jobs at a bakery and in factories, including the Inductive in their home town.
Les was in the Royal Navy, then the Merchant Navy, and spent more than three decades working for cable firm Pyrotenax.
In addition to Margaret, they are parents to Sandra Ball, 61, the late Carole McNabola, who died four years ago at the age of 52, and sons Lesley, 55, and Brian, 48.
They are also grandparents to seven boys and a girl, with a step grand-daughter and two step great-grandchildren.
