Hebburn turn up the Heat-on rivals in freezing conditions

The winning sequence started on October 1, and in the seven fixtures the Hornets have kept five clean sheets and conceded only two goals – a great achievement which sees them at the top of the Second Division form table.

The away side started the brighter of the two teams, and were extremely unlucky not to take the lead in the 12th minute with a great shot which beat Steve Hubery, in the home goal, but struck the far post and bounced back into the keeper’s hands.

Five minutes later, Dan Robinson rounded Hubery and fired towards the goal but Chris Smith cleared the ball off the line.

Hebburn almost took the lead in the 40th minute when Davidson broke free but the Stan keeper made a great save with his outstretched leg.

After the break, Davidson dragged his shot just wide of the upright when he should have given Hebburn the lead.

Hubery made a good save, after Chris Smith slipped while at the other end, Jason Blackburn almost broke the deadlock for Hebburn but was denied by a great save.

As the temperature dropped and the rain continued it looked as if the points would be shared when in the 86 th minute Glen Hargrave finally beat Smith in the away goal with a left-footed drive from close to the penalty spot to give Scott Oliver’s side all three points.

Hebburn Town travel to Ryton and Crawcrook Albion next Saturday, looking to extend their winning run and hopefully continue to climb up the table.
