Henri Saivet on Tyneside to sign for Newcastle as club pursues £10m Jonjo Shelvey deal

The 25-year-old is on Tyneside to complete a move to St James's Park.

Saivet, a Senegal international, would cost upwards of £3million.

And the club is also understood to be close to agreeing a deal for Swansea City's £10million-rated midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

Shelvey, 23, has become unsettled at the Liberty Stadium.

Newcastle are yet to sign a player in this month's transfer window.

However, with the club 18th in the Premier League, and without a goal in all competitions for 412 minutes, there is a pressing need for attacking reinforcements.

Head coach Steve McClaren will face the media later today ahead of tomorrow night's home game against Manchester United.
