High winds sees gable end of house in Jarrow collapse

HIGH winds have caused the gable end of a house in Jarrow to collapse.

Officers from South Shields and Hebburn fire stations were called out to the address in Selkirk Street at 4am on Friday.

Three crews including a structural collapse vehicle from Hebburn station rushed to the scene.

The three people inside the property got out of the house before the emergency services arrived.

Watch manager at South Shields station, Ed Cooper, said that significant damage had been done to the house.

Officers from Hebburn also attended Ashbourne Road in Jarrow after a felt roofing appeared to be coming free because of the wind.

Crews managed to remove the affected part of the roof safely.

It also happened at 4am.
