Britta Daley, chairman of the guild, based at All Saints Community Centre in Stanley Street, South Shields, said: “Janis is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to South Tyneside and her show at the Customs House was insightful.

“She has been a guest speaker at our guild in the past, and it is a delight we are able to welcome her back.”

The Townswomen’s Guild has been holding regular sessions since 1937.

The group, which is part of a national network, had previously been based at Cleadon Park.

Each month, special guests are invited to the meetings to give talks and demonstrations, members also take part in activities and there are day trips.

In May, a trip to Wainstones Hotel in Stokesley has been organised in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Mrs Daley added: “It’s great that the group has been going for so long, but I’m always trying to find new ways to attract new members to increase our numbers.”

The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 2pm. The next meeting will take place on April 12.
