Hope springs eternal as talented teen is up for an award

Aspiring doctor Hope Swan, from Sunderland Road, South Shields, has been put forward for the Young Performer Award recognising her dedication to both her studies and performing arts.

Musical theatre star Hope, 16, attends Starset Theatre, in East Boldon, and JnK School of Dance, in South Shields.

She excels in singing, dancing and acting.

She was put forward for the award by her family.

They said in their nomination: “She is a wonderful example of a teenager, as she not only throws herself into her passion of performing, but she is also a very dedicated student.”

Hope, who is in her first year of A-levels at Harton Technology College studying maths, biology, chemistry and psychology, aspires to become a doctor.

Alongside her studies, she still manages to stay focused on her performing arts and has recently starred as Emily in a production of Elf, and more recently she took the part of Gabriella in High School Musical, with Starset Theatre.

Mum Debbie Swan said: “Hope wants to be a doctor, or do something in performing arts. She is always performing and has been going to Starset since the age of six.

“She has also been dancing since the age of three.

“She is really pleased to be nominated for the award and would be thrilled if she won.

“Every year her voice gets stronger and better and she grows in confidence.

“I think performing arts has helped her make real friendships for life and it has lent itself to lots of areas.

“She has the most pure beautiful voice and is a good all-rounder.”
