A super slimmer from South Shields is one of Britain’s top ten slimmers after shedding an incredible 13 stone.
Michelle Quinn’s inspirational weight loss earned her a place at the Slimming World’s Woman of the Year 2015 competition.
The 44-year-old was one of just 10 out of 800,000 group members to make the cut.
Being among the best in the country saw her invited to the organisation’s head office in Derbyshire, where she met up with Emmerdale star Anthony Quinlan, who congratulated her on her achievement.
Michelle, a civil servant from West Harton, South Shields, said: “I was over the moon. My life has completely changed. I even qualified as a gym instructor in September and I’m going to train to be a body pump instructor next year – that’s something I could never have done.
“I’m in my 40s and I thought I was always going to be overweight but this just goes to show that if I can do it, anybody can – you just have to want to do it.

“It will totally change your life, even if that’s just by being able to go shopping and buy the clothes you want to buy or to go walking or running.”
Michelle joined a Slimming World group at West Harton Methodist Church in 2013 after tipping the scales at 25st 2.5lbs.
Since then she’s lost an impressive 13st and now weighs 12st 2.5lbs – dropping from a dress size of 28 to 30 to a 12.
Her own group members voted to name her their Woman of the Year and after winning the regional heat and national semi-finals, she made it to the final, but sadly didn’t take home the big prize.
She said: “I’d tried losing weight before – I’ve done pretty much every diet there is – yet I always found the plans that I followed too hard to stick to because they left me feeling hungry and deprived, which made me miserable.
“Slimming World was completely different, I don’t have to go hungry and I’ve never once felt like I’m missing out on anything.”
She added: “I can remember the first time I walked into the group. I felt very self-conscious and so nervous, but everyone was really friendly and made me feel really welcome.
“Now I look forward to it every week. We swap recipes and advice, and it’s a lot of fun. The best thing is great support though and I don’t think I’d have been able to get to where I am today without my consultant Kelly Allen and the rest of the South Shields group.”
Michelle’s diet has changed a lot since joining Slimming World. Here’s an example of the kind of things she used to eat and what she has now.

Lunch – Sandwiches and crisps
