A family are providing home comforts for sweet-toothed South Tynesiders.
Danielle Jaggers and her younger brother Andrew officially opened a new shop called Sweets and Treats in Harton Village, South Shields, on Saturday.
The pair decided to open the store after their sweetie delivery service proved popular in the borough.
Last October, the siblings launched a business, starting with just £200, selling candies and sweets, at fairs across the region.
They soon noticed how popular their candies were, however, and decided to branch out.
Danielle, 23, a teaching assistant during the day, said: “We realised the sweets were the most popular thing we were selling, so then we started a delivery service on the evenings, after I finished work, and we’d drop off sweets to people’s houses. They loved it.
On an average week, we are doing up to 20 deliveries, especially on a Sunday when people were hungover. It’s quite funny really.Danielle Jaggers, sweet shop owner, said
“We sell 600 grammes of sweets for £5, and if people reach this amount, then we will come and deliver them.

Although they are going to continue with their evening door-to-door service, the pair, of Southwick in Sunderland, hope their new sweet shop, stocked with all the traditional favourites, and more modern gimmicks, will take off
Danielle said: “We’ll be open from 8am to 6pm to start off with to see how that goes.
“There are lots of schools nearby, so the children will hopefully pop in for a treat.
“My brother’s going to man the shop during the day, and I’ll be helping out when I’m not working, then on an evening we will keep going with the deliveries.
“Lots of people like sweets, so we’re hoping it will take off.”
