People in South Tyneside are being encouraged to get in shape for the New Year – and save some cash.

Council bosses say the range of activities and leisure memberships available in the borough means that there’s never been a better time – and are offering a month’s free membership to help people get involved.

Councillor Alan Kerr, deputy leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for culture and leisure, said: “The New Year is the perfect opportunity for people to make a fresh start and get fit and healthy by taking advantage of the wide range of activities and services on offer at our leisure centres.

“We want our residents to benefit from an active and healthy lifestyle and therefore we would encourage everyone to go along to their local leisure centre and try out our range of fitness classes and sports facilities.

“People can choose from over a hundred fitness classes across the borough’s five leisure centres, with everything from Aqua Fit and Step Aerobics to Boxer Fit, Pilates and Metafit.

South Tyneside Council is offering one month free for any of its range of multi or duo activity memberships, from £14 per month for young people and £17.50 per month for adults, that are bought this month.

Councillor Kerr added: “Don’t forget to sign up to one of our leisure memberships in January to get a free month of unlimited access to fitness classes, swim or gym sessions at any of South Tyneside’s five leisure centres.

“It is a great opportunity to kick start a new health and fitness regime.”
