AN INQUEST is expected to be opened today into the death of a man found on a beach.
The identity of the man will not be released until after the hearing, which is expected to be heard by South Tyneside coroner Terence Carney today.
It follows the discovery of a body on the beach at Whitburn, close to the former rifle range, just before 7.30am on Wednesday.
HM Coastguard and Sunderland RNLI were called in by the police to help with the recovery of the body, with Northumbria Police stating there is no third party involved in the death.
Anyone with information can contact police on 101.
