When firefighters arrived at the scene, the blaze was well underway and had already spread to some nearby sheds.

A spokeswoman for the service told the Gazette: “One crew from Hebburn and two from South Shields were called out at 7.05pm to a well-developed fire, which had spread to some sheds.”

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service is looking into the cause of the incident.
