Could this be the latest model produced at Sunderland’s Nissan plant?

The car firm today released a teaser image of what may be the new look for its successful Juke mini crossover.

The picture was released under the title ‘Introducing Nissan’s new Crossover Concept,’ along with a press release that is frustratingly light on detail but comes just days after the firm announced a new Juke will be built on Wearside.

“Nissan pioneered the crossover sector with its amazingly-successful Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail ranges,” it says.

“With a combination of rugged 4x4 looks, hatchback running costs, luxury car rivalling technology and quality, more than 2.5 million have been sold across Europe.

“So can Nissan continue to innovate and move the bar higher? What if Nissan created a new way to feel driving excitement? The answer will come at the Frankfurt motor show.”

The Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off on September 15.

Nissan announced last week that the Sunderland plant is to build a new version of the Juke, guaranteeing thousands of jobs into the next decade.

The £100million investment secures both production lines on Wearside and the jobs of 34,000 people employed by the firm and its British suppliers beyond 2020.

Chancellor George Osborne visited the plant for the announcement and congratulated the Sunderland workforce: “It’s fantastic news that Nissan will be building their new car in Sunderland and securing valuable jobs for thousands of working people in the area,” he said.
