A ladies’ club has been jolly good at raising cash for charity.

The Chichester Club, a friendship group which meets at Saville Lodge in Saville Street, South Shields, has donated £100 to St Clare’s Hospice.

The group raised the funds by taking part in a Jolly Jumper Sweepstake, which saw members betting on a snazzy jumper, and a colouring competition, where they had to design a woolly jumper for Buddy the bear.

Sonia Graham, from St Clare’s Hospice, judged the competition and also received the cheque.

Dot Golightly, club member, said: “The sweepstake was won by Betty Gargill and the Buddy competition was won by Liz Robinson.

“However, the ladies donated their winnings to the charity and the club matched it with another £50, so that took us up to £100 and we were very pleased.”
