Sunderland supporters are savouring sweet six-cess - after the Black Cats continued their remarkable run of victories in the Wear-Tyne Derby.

An Adam Johnson penalty on the stroke of half-time - which saw Newcastle captain Fabio Coloccini sent off - was followed up by strikes by Billy Jones and Steve Fletcher to give the Wearsiders a thumping 3-0 win in the crunch clash today.

The much-needed result was Sunderland’s first win of the season and moved them above their bitter rivals in the Premier League table.

Martin McFadden, editor of club fanzine A Love Supreme, was delighted to see the side pick up three priceless points at the expense of the Magpies.

He adkits that he feared the club’s now record-breaking streak of victories against their neighbours would come to an end at the Stadium of Light.

He said: “It is getting a little bit easy now.

“I must admit I didn’t think beforehand that we would win this game.

“But I couldn’t be happier with a 3-0 win over Newcastle.”

Mr McFadden is keen for Sam Allardyce to build on his first win as boss and lead the side away from relegation trouble.

“We need this to be the launchpad for our season.

“We have played quite well in the previous couple of home games but haven’t been able to get that result.

“It is great to get that first win of the season.

“We have obviously been saving it for Newcastle.

“I was concerned that we could end up bottom of the table when Villa were leading against Swansea yesterday.

“We now need continuity under Sam Allardyce and for him to be backed in the transfer market.”
